Standard #7 Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons.

  1. Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons.

  1. The teacher organizes and plans systematic instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, pupils, the community, and curriculum goals.
  2. I have been able to work on lesson plans for classes in Acting 1, Acting 2, Improvization, Acting 4 and a musical theatre class. Here are a few examples of these lesson plans, from different points in the semesters.
Improvization Class

Class 5 1/17
NCAS Grade 9-12 Theater Standard 2: Acting by developing, communicating, and sustaining characters in improvisations and informal or formal productions
0-2 minutes Have students sit in a circle.

2-10 minutes Review what we have learned about improv so far. Importance of coming up with an idea and accepting that idea, being willing to try silly movements and have fun, and listening and reacting.

10-25 minutes Explain and start working on triangle scenes. Talk about how important it is for A and B to establish relationship and situation.

Triangle Scene-
There are three actors, A, B and C in a triangle. A starts the scene by approaching B, establishing a relationship (who is B?) and a problem A is having. After they talk this out for a bit, B finds a reason to go and talk with C about this problem. B walks over to C, again establishing relationship. After they spend some time talking about the problem, C finds a logical reason to leave the scene. A new student then gets up as A and starts a new scene.

Acting 2 Class
Class 10 2/5
The WI teaching standard B.12.7 Articulate in written and oral form the character’s wants, needs, and basic personality characteristics
0-5 minutes Have students sit in semi circle with chromebook.  Students should find worksheet on Schoology.

5-15 minutes Read additional student stories from last class. Have students try to identify each other’s stories.

15-30 minutes Review W Questions. What are the definitions we came up with as a class. Go through each question and make sure the students are clear on each question.

30-55 minutes Give instructions for answering ‘W questions”. Students will work with their partners as they answer the “W questions”, but instead of for themselves they are answering for their character in their chosen monologue.
Assign partners for unit. Students will be put together by teacher.
Supervise partner work, encouraging the students to finish questions during class time

Acting 4 Class

Class 3 1/11

NCAS Theatre Standard 1
Script writing through improvising, writing, and refining scripts based on personal experience and heritage, imagination, literature, and history

0-2 minutes Have students stand in circle.

2-10 minutes Lead them through stretching and breath excersise

10-45 minutes Explain and play “Find Your Group”

45-55 minutes Have students sit in circle. Facilitate discussion about discovery games. What did we learn about each other? What did you learn about yourself? Did you have any assumptions about other people that were not true?

Find Your Group-
The leader calls out a group such as “find everyone who has the same birth month as you” and students have 10 seconds to find everyone in their group. After a few warm times when students are able to talk to find things out about each other, the students then have to be silent and make assumptions about each other. Ask questions like favorite hobby, ethnicity, favorite class?
