Standard #10 Teachers are connected with other teachers and the community.

  1. Teachers are connected with other teachers and the community.

  2. The teacher fosters relationships with school colleagues, parents, and agencies in the larger community to support pupil learning and well-being and acts with integrity, fairness and in an ethical manner.
As a teacher, I have developed wonderful relationships with my fellow teachers. I believe it is vital to have a good working relationship with your collages, so you can collaborate on projects, speak with other teachers to ask questions, talk about best teaching practises, and discuss issues about students. Schools should be a safe place for students to trust that their teachers are able to work together to make the best learning environment for everyone.

I also think it is important to work with the community on theatre projects. One of my favorite units I have done as a teacher is a play writing unit where we partnered with San Camillo, a local retirement community. The students interviewed residents and then wrote their plays based on the stories they were told. We then presented a reading of those plays at San Camillo at the end of the semester, so the residents got to hear the plays that were inspired by their stories. I would love to find other ways to bring my students into the community to tell stories and learn about other people outside of the school.
